Abstract

Three corn silages prepared by adding 0, 1 and 2 per cent urea and 5 per cent cane molasses contained CP (7.70, 8.85 and 9.61 per cent), acetic acid (3.15, 4.68 and 12.24 per cent) and lactic acid (15.89, 16.54 and 17.01 per cent). Dry matter intakes (143.20, 161.60 and 146.30 g/kg body wt.0.75) and digestibility of CP (63.67, 64.00 and 64.00 per cent) were more for the urea fortified silages. Haemoglobin, blood glucose and creatinine were unaffected but blood ammonia levels increased with the level of urea in the silages. The milk yield was significantly higher in cows fed urea fortified silages. The composition of milk was not significantly affected.
