Twcntyone varieties of tree leaves from dry deciduous forests, 13 varieties from semi evergreen forests and 11 varieties from moist forests and hill slopes were analysed for proximate constituents and tannin content. The CP content ranged from 6.91 to 21.52 per cent and Ca from 0.52 to 3.99 per cent on DM basis. The P content was, in general, low in all tree leaves. The tannin content of tree leaves ranged from 0.98 to 13.12 per cent on DM basis. It was further observed that out of 45 tree leaves analysed, only 32 contained less than 5 per cent tannin. Leaves of Alangium salvifolium, Cycas circinalis and Heloptilea integrifolia trees contained more than 15 per cent CP and less than 2 per cent tannins on DM basis.
