Abstract

Water ingestion per 100 kg body weight and ratio of water ingestion to DM intake were studied for Jersey x Kankrej (F2) and Holstcin Friesian x Kankrej (F2) heifers during summer of 1985. Breed group differences existed for the ratio of water to DM intake, hut not for the water intake per 100 kg body weight. The water ingestion was significantly reduced by sheltering and splashing treatments. However, splashing was more effective in HK F2 than in JK F2 heifers, Temperature humidity index had better association with free average water ingestion than ambient temperature or relative humidity alone.
