Abstract

In-virto experiments were carried out to test the solubility of Ca from various Ca supplement sources, such as lime, marble, chalk, gypsum and di-calcium phosphate and pure calcium chloride. Solubility values were appreciably low at pH7 and ranged from 0 (dicalcium phosphate) to 23 per cent in gypsum. By scaling down the pH of ruminal buffer to 4, these values increased considerably to as high as 98.8 per cent in case of pure CaCl2. Similarly, P solubility from various P supplements. such as superphosphate, Mussorrie rock phosphate, dicalcium phosphate and pure sodium phosphate in ruminal buffer solution ranged from 14 in rock phosphate to as high as 86.5 per cent in sodium phosphate at pH 7. Unlike Ca solubility, changing pH of the ruminal solution from 7 through 4 did not show any marked improvement in P solubility of different P sources studied.
