Simpler mod Fes of mathematical calculation for the computation of the rate of degradation (c) and the effective degradabllity (ED) of a feed in the rumen by the nyion bag technique, at an assumed rumen outflow rate (k), based on measurement of undegradable fraction at various h of rumen incubation, have been developed assuming degradation of the entire insoluble fraction or that of only the potentially degradable fraction. These models gave widely different values of c but the ED varied within narrow limits. The differences in ED were lowest for a particular value of k, which it is hypothesized was the actual k under the experimental conditions. Simple mathematical manipulation of the same basic data, for the hypothetical actual k, resulted in a different value of c but the ED corresponded significantly to the computerized value.
