Rumen fluid volume (RFV) and flow rates of liquid and solid digests were determined in Karal Fries male calves fed on untreated (A); 4% urea+40% moisture treated (B); and 5% urea + 30% moisture treated (C) rice straw as basal roughage and concentrate mixture as per their requirments. RFV and DM in the rumen content at 0 h were not affected by dietary treatments. Flow rates of liquid and solid digesta increased significantly (P<0.01) in animals fed urea treated rice straw. A positive and significant (P<0.01) correlation was observed between RFV and body weight and DM. The values of RFV as per cent of body weight and DM passage rate as per centof DM in the rumen increased significantly (P<0.01) in groups B and C than in group A, while ratio of flow rate and RFY and DM in the rumen at O h as per cent of DMI was not affected by dietary treatments.
