Dhaincha (Sesbania aculeate) Seeds as Concentrate Supplement for Growing Haryana Calves

Abstract

Four growing male Haryana calves (13m; 101 Ve) were fed 850 g/d pre-water soaked (24 h) ground Dhaincha (Sesbania aculeata) seeds along with ad lib berseem straw. The DM consumption was 2.8±0.16 kg/100 kg body weight (92.95+1.80 g/kgw0.75). The Dhaincha seeds contained 32.55% CP on DM basis and its digestibility was 72.73%. The balances of N, Ca and P were positive. The plane of nutrition of calves (112 kg U. wt,) in terms of intake of DM, DCP and TDN was 3.20+0.11 kg, 236.08±8.28 and 1.70±0.04 kg respectively. The average DCP, TDN, NR, DE, ME, Ca and P value of Dhaincha seeds were 23.67% 67.39%, 1:1.85, 2.97 Mcal/kg, 2.43 Mcal/kg, 0.23% and 0.74% respectively. The growth rate In calves was 366.66±17.60 g/d.
