Effect of Subabul (Leucaena leucocephala) Feeding on Testicular Growth and the Levels of Testosterone and Thyroxine in Male Goats

Abstract

Eighteen Black Bengal x Beetal male kids (9-10m; 10kg) were divided into three equal groups and fed diets containing 0(T1), 50 (T2) and 80 (T3) per cent green subabul, (Leucaena leucocephala) for 100d. The mean testes volume, testosterone and thyroxine levels in T1, T2, and T3 were 50.31±1.38, 51.31±3.86 and 45.14±3.67 c. cm; 235.05±54.62, 414.16±64.01 and 302.17±55.12 pg/ml and 79.13±6.16, 84.88±5.03 and 84.91±6.50 mg/ml, respectively showing non-significant differences amongst three dietary treatments at sexual maturity.
