Eight growing male buffaloes (12-16 m; 174 kg), divided into 2 equal groups, were fed concentrate mixtures containing either deoiled groundnut cake (Gp 1) or water treated subabul seeds (Gp 2) alongwith ad lib wheat straw and 3 kg green sorghum. The voluntary DMI was 3.2 and 2.8 kg/100 kg body weight in Gp 1 and 2 respectively. The DCP and TDN contents in total were 14.8% and 63.9% in gp 1 and 13.5% and 61.2% in gp 2. The average daily live weight gain in corresponding groups were 0.653 and 0.577 kg/d. Apparent digesti-bilities of all nutrients were higher in Gp l but did not differ significantly between the groups. In gp 2, which was fed the concentrate mixture containing Subabul seeds the retentions of mimosine and tannins were 9.75±1.2 g/d (0.051 g/kg body wt) and 61.2±6.4 g/d (0.322 g/kg body wt) respectively, which were non-toxic.
