Novozyme SP-243, a fibre degrading enzyme, containing cellulase and hemicellulase activity was tested on 120 broilers (Id old), randomly divided into 8 equal groups (2 replicateseach) and fed for 6 wks standard diet duly supplemented with enzyme preparation at 0 (W1), 20 (W2), 25 (W3) and 30 (W4) g/100 kg. The gain in bodyweight and efficiency of feed utilization were significantly (P<0.05) higher in W2 as compared to other groups. The stimulating response of enzyme supplementation was clear during the first 3 wks only, thereafter it faded away. The digestibility coefficients of different nutrients increased with the supplementation of enzyme which, however, failed to correspond with the biological performance of broiler chicks.
