Abstract

The rumen degradability of nitrogen (N) in 9 tree forages, determined by the nylon bag technique, was corrected for microbial N contemination of nylon bag residues by applying a blank correction based on estimate of N deposited on N-free cellulosic material in nylon bags incubated under similar experimental conditions. The true degradability of N was higher than the apparent degradability in all the forages; the increase (%) ranged from 135 in C. tonna to 317 in Q. incana. The true (y) and apparent (x) degradabilities were significantly correlated (r=0.74, P<0.05) and the former could be predicted from the latter by a simple equation (y=0.645 x + 25.4)
