Fifteen indigenous pigs (1 - 1½ m; 3-5kg) were randomly divided into 3 equal groups and fed exclusively on either concentrate (A), or garbage (B) or scavenging (C) for 3m. The growth rates (g/d) were 110±7.0, 140±12.0 and 47±5.0 in A, B and C respectively. Feed to gain ratio was lower in A than B. The dressing percentage in corresponding groups was 67.40±0.50; 73.5O±1.20 and 59.40±2.30. The difference in longissimus dorsi muscle protein, fat, moisture, ash and GF were significant (P<0.01) in different groups. The concentrare and garbage feeding resulted in lean and fatty carcasses, respectively while scavenging resulted in very poor growth of indigenous pigs with low carcass yields.
