Performance of Broiler Chicks on Kosum Cake Containing Diets

140 days old, unsexed cross-bred broiler chicks divided into o groups of 35 chicks eacac were fed the diets in which expeller pressed kosum cake (EPKC) repaked 20 (T₂), 40 (T₃) and 60% N (T₄) of niger cake of the control group (T₁), respectively. The average body weight gains for groups T₁ to T₄ at 10 weels were 2251±19.5, 2275. 4±20.7. 2079. 2+22.9, and 1988+273 g (P < 0.5) with feed gain ratio of 2.65±0.82, 2.62±0.21, 2.60±0.25 and 2.55±034 (P > 0.05), respectively. The metabolic trial exhibited a positive and ndn-significant variarion among groups for N and Ca balances. The P balance was positive in all groups but significantly lower (P < 0.05) in control group ttan in T₂ to T₄ groups. The cost of feed/kg gaig in weight was lowest for the birds fed 60% N (T₄) from EPKC followed by groups T₃to T₁. However, the differences among groups were non-significant. Thus, it could be concluded that EPKC could successfully replace niger cake N upto 60% in broiier rations.
