Sugarcane bagasse (100g) was ammoniated, using 1, 2, 4 and 6% urea at 50% moisture level, in air-tight containers for 0,1,2,3,4, 5 and 6 wks. Another lot of bagasse was steam treated at 2 kg/cm2 pressure for 60 min. followed by urea treatment. A batch of urea treated bagasse samples after completion of desired period of storage were steam treated. Four sets of processed bagasse samples such as steam treated, urea treated, steam-urea (SU) treated and urea-steam (US) treated were evaluated by in vitro technique. pH was lower (P<0.05) with steam treatment and higher for ammoniated bagasse than for the untreated samples. IVDMD and IVOMD were increased (P<0.05) wih steam treated, 4 and 6% urea, SU and US treated samples than in other samples. The NH -N conentration dec -reased upto 3 wks of storage but without any effect on further storage. Maximum IVDMD and IVOMD values were observed for 2 wks stored samples.
