A Descriptive Study to Assess the Effects of Parental Pressure on Academic Performance among Students at Selected Schools of District Jalandhar, Punjab, 2015

Abstract

Parents are highly concerned about their children's study so by using different practices like pressure to do study, restriction and monitoring, they rear their children without knowing the results which may lead to pressure of the study. To get the baseline data regarding parental pressure on academic performance of students to improve quality of life by providing pamphlet. At selected schools of, District, Jalandhar, Punjab. The research design selected for the study was Descriptive Research Design. The setting was the selected schools of district Jalandhar, Punjab Govt. Sen. Sec. School PAP Rama Mandi Jalandhar, St. Solider Divine Public School. Nakodar Distt, Jalandhar, Govt. Sen. Sec. School Laddhewali Distt Jalandhar, Govt. Sen. Sec. School Malsian District Jalandhar Punjab. Three point rating scale to assess the level of parental pressure consisted of 24 statements and academics Performa were finalized with 7 items to assess the academic performance of the students of selected schools and was analyzed by applying descriptive and inferential statistics. Out of 200 students, maximum 88 (44%) students experienced moderate level of parental pressure, followed by 82 (41%) students experienced mild level of parental pressure and minimum 30 (15%) students were experience severe level of parental pressure. Out of 200 students, maximum 122 (61%) students got grade-A in their class, followed by 78(39%) students got grade-B in their class and no one 0(00%) students got grade-C in their class. According the co-relation the mean of parental pressure score is (19.985) and SD score is (8.520) and the mean score of academics performance is (15.18) and SD score is (2.821) and the total sample is 200 students and value of co-relation is (0.724) and the table value is (0.139) and P value is (0.000) and results shows significant relationship between the parental pressure over the academic performance.
