Epilepsy is a common health problem which carries with it a variety of medical, social, psychological and economic burdens. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge and attitude regarding epilepsy and its first aid management among primary school teachers of selected schools. With an evaluatory approach, the investigator used one group pre test and post test research design for this study. 30 subjects were selected by Non probability convenient sampling technique. The data was collected with the help of structured questionnaire and structured attitude scale. The comparison between the mean of pretest and post test for knowledge showed that the mean of differences was 6.76, the calculated ‘t’ value was 10.44 while the tabulated value was 2.05 at 29 degrees of freedom. Also the calculated ‘p’ value 0.0001 was much less than 0.05, showing that there was a significant improvement in the knowledge of the primary school teachers related to epilepsy and its first aid management. The comparison between the mean of pretest and post test for attitude showed that the mean of differences was 11.2, the calculated ‘t’ value was 6.18 while the tabulated value was 2.05 at 29 degrees of freedom. Also the calculated ‘p’ value 0.0001 was much less than 0.05, showing that there was a significant improvement in the attitude of the primary school teachers related to epilepsy and its first aid management. So, the null hypothesis H0 is rejected and the research hypothesis H1 is selected. No significant association was found between knowledge and attitude regarding epilepsy and its firstaid management among primary school teachers. Association of demographic variables showed that teaching experience was significantly associated with the knowledge of primary school teachers, whereas age, sex and teaching experience were significantly associated with the attitude of the primary school teachers regarding epilepsy and its first aid management. Based on the above findings, it was concluded undoubtedly that the structured teaching programme helped the primary school teachers to improve their knowledge and attitude on epilepsy and its first aid management.
