Abstract

Present studies had been conducted to elucidate the gross structural peculiarities on various laryngeal cartilages of mithun and zebu. The larynx of mithun was relatively elongated than the zebu. The vocal fold, voealis muscles, thyroid cartilage and caudal cornua were well developed in mithun. The arytenoid cartilage was more thicker in mithun. The caudal thyroid notch was less distinct in mithun. The lingual surface of epiglottis of mithun was wider and curved cranio-ventrally. The median crest of cricoid cartilage of mithun was well developed, while its muscular process was less developed than that of zebu. The ventral laryngeal prominence of thyroid cartilage was shallow in both mithun and zebu. The corniculate process was comma shaped in zebu and it was less curved in mithun.
