Effect of source of protein and feeding frequency on feeding behaviour of Murrah buffalo calves
Abstract
Twenty female murrah buffalo calves of 8–10 months age were reared under four feeding management systems viz., T1-feeding concentrate containing mustard cake as a source of protein and roughage once in a day. T2-feeding concentrate containing mustard cake as a source of protein and roughage twice in day. T3-feeding concentrate containing cotton seed cake as a source of protein and roughage once in a day. T4-feeding concentrate containing cotton seed cake as a source of protein and roughage twice in a day. It was observed that feeding, rumination and resting time did not differ significantly due to different feeding systems. Although the differences were not significant but frequency of feeding influenced the eating time to some extent.
