In the present study vitamin D (as Cholecalclferol/D3) has been studied in relation to certain biological and biochemical profiles of the fingerlings of Catla catla for a period of 60 days. Results indicate that for better protein productive value (PPV) and energy conversion efficiency (ECE), an appropriate level of vitamin D in the diet is essential. The Ca contents increased with increasing dietary vitamin D levels, whereas P contents were found to decrease with increasing Ca contents in muscles and liver. The accumulation of vitamin D in these tissues increased with increasing dietary levels of vitamin D. However, diets deficient for vitamin D showed insignificant vitamin D contents in these tissues. The vitamin D dependent enzyme activity of alkaline phosphatase was found to decrease significantly in the liver and blood serum of fingerlings fed on increasing levels of vitamin D.
