Abstract

The path analysis of selective value for the period of 23 years (1980–2002) of Sahiwal cattle maintained at National Dairy Research Institute, Kamal was carried out to find out the effect of different causal factors. The path analysis of selective value showed that number of female calves born (83.65%), number of calvings (30.77%), number of female calves lost (0.29%) and number of abnormal births (0.23%) contributed to the variability in number of female calves reached. Among the total effect of number of calvings (30.77%), it was mainly contributed by its indirect effect through number of female calves born. Number of female calves born contributed by its direct effect mostly. Regarding number of female calves lost, its direct effect was high but the total effect becoming less due to its indirect effect through number of female calves born. These variables completely explained the total variations in number of female calves reached AFC.
