Abstract

Around 3762 data on different reproductive traits recorded from New Zealand White and Soviet Chinchilla breed of rabbit over a period of four years in Rabbit Research Farm of the institute under Animal Production Division were analyzed. Rabbits were maintained in indoor wire mesh cage system individually. Those were fed with 50% green roughage and 50% concentrate pelleted feed on DM basis. Significant difference (P< 0.05) was observed in litter weight at birth, litter size at weaning, litter weight at weaning between the does of parental, 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd generation both in New Zealand White and Soviet Chinchilla. So in respect of litter size, litter weight and individual litter weight at birth, litter size at weaning, inter-kindling period and crops per year, the Soviet Chinchilla breed was better than the New Zealand White. Although in respect of litter weight at weaning, service per conception and age at first conception, the New Zealand White was better than the Soviet Chinchilla. So, Soviet Chinchilla breed excels New Zealand White in most of the reproductive traits.
