The milk production in Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir was not in accordance with their bovine population because of various problems. An attempt to study the constraints faced by 200 dairy farmers in dairying were analyzed. Information relating to various problems faced by the dairy farmers in rearing bovine were enlisted in a pre-tested interview schedule. The farmers were asked to rank the constraints in order of their importance. The study revealed that half of the dairy farmers (50 per cent) had faced medium level of constraints, while 32.50 and 17.50 per cent respondents had faced high and low level of constraints, respectively. The respondents had expressed infrastructural constraints as the most severe impediments, whereas technical constraints were hampering the dairying to the least extent. There was a significant difference between different groups of respondents with respect to constraints encountered by them.
