Abstract

Data of 432 lactation records of 96 crossbreds cows sired by 5 bulls extending over a period 1980–1997 from Cattle Breeding Farm, Borgaon Manju, Akola (M. S.) were collected. The first lactation traits are first lactation milk yield (FLMY) and first lactation length (FLL) while lifetime traits are lifetime milk yield (LTMY) and productive life (PL). The model for least square analysis of variance included random effect of sire and fixed effect of period and season of calving was applied for analysis of data. Overall mean for FLMY, FLL, LTMY and PL were 832.80 ± 40.34 kg, 258.82 ± 8.35 days, 4865.23 ± 438.79 kg and 1200.37 ± 91.86 days respectively. All the first lactation and lifetime traits were nonsignificantly influenced by sire, period and season of calving. The heritability estimates are calculated by half sib correlation method and it was found as 0.40 ± 0.38 and 0.35 ± 0.36 for FLMY and FLL, respectively.
