Abstract

A study was undertaken to find the correlation between cadmium concentrations in serum and serum biochemical parameters in cattle. Area around fertilizers and chemicals travancore (FACT), Indian Aluminum Company (INDAL), Binani Zinc and Hindustan Insecticide limited of Eloor industrial area were selected for the study. The cadmium levels in the serum estimated by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The serum cadmium levels are significantly higher in Binanipuram and Eloor north. Parameters like BUN, creatinine, albumen, globulin, total protein estimated using the blood anlyser. The BUN levels and creatinine found to increase in test areas than control. A significant decrease in the total protein, albumin, and globulin noted in Binanaipuram, Alupuram and Eloor north and a decrease in the globulin, albumin and total protein than controls noted in Eloor south.
