Effect of enzyme supplementaion on digestibilty and metabolizability of nutrients in cockerels

Abstract

A feeding cum digestibility experiment was conducted in cockerels without (T1) or with the addition of a commercial enzyme, T1+ 500 g/ton of feed (T2), with 5 (T3) and 10% (T4) reduction in Metabolizable Energy (ME) and Crude Protein of the diet supplemented with enzyme @ 500 g/ton of feed. The digestibilities of dry matter, ether extract and fibre were significantly (P<0.01) increased in all enzyme added groups over that of control. Significant (P<0.01) improvement in metabolizability of protein (5.85, 5.61 and 5.99 per cent in T2, T3 and T4 respectively than control) was recorded due to the enzyme supplementation. Enzyme supplementation resulted in 5.2 per cent improvement in estimated Metabolizable Energy over calculated Metabolizable Energy value in cockerels fed with standard rations supplemented with enzyme mixture.
