Sustainability of different ruminants on different fodder crops

Ten grower and ten adult goats each of Jamunapari breed and five crossbred cows were maintained in semi intensive system of management. Different fodders were harvested for feeding animals as and when available in different seasons. Performance of animals was studied on different fodders produced in different seasons. It was observed that there was highly significant (P < 0.01) difference of fodder intake from different fodders both in grower and adult goats. Highest fodder intake was from Oat both in grower and adult goats. Highest growth of goat was observed to be 71.28 ± 1.41 g/day on Oat fodder with an average daily gain of grower goat was 53.09 ± 0.85 g/day. In lactating crossbred cows the overall mean fodder intake on fresh basis was highest on Barseem (14.264 ± 0.153). Maximum milk yield of cow was found on Barseem fodder (7.793 ± 0.247 kg/day/cow) with an overall milk yield of 7.083 ± 0.153 kg/day/head.
