Effect of feeding improved varieties of fodder on growth performance and nutrient digestibility in Osmanabadi goat
Abstract
The present research was undertaken to study the eighteen Osmanabadi does of one half and 2 years of age were randomly selected and divided into 3 groups, 6 in each group on the basis of body weight and age. The groups were fed with treatment (T1) contents 50 per cent DCP from green Maize fodder + 50 per cent DCP from Concentrate mixture + ad lib Sorghum kadbi, (T2) 50 per cent DCP from green Marvel grass + 50 per cent DCP from Concentrate mixture + ad lib Sorghum kadbi and (T3) 50 per cent DCP from green DHN-6 fodder + 50 per cent DCP from Concentrate mixture + ad lib Sorghum kadbi. It was concluded that the monthly body weights and monthly gain in body weights was numerically higher in does fed with DHN-6 fodder. The dry matter (DM), digestible crude protein (DCP) and total digestible nutrient (TDN) intake was significantly higher in group fed with DHN-6 fodder than group fed with marvel grass and maize fodder. The higher nutrient digestibility was observed in does fed with DHN-6 fodder than rest of all treatments.
