Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the individual and combinatorial effects of lipid-utilizing nutraceuticals (L-carnitine, taurine and quercetin) on growth, protein and carbohydrate metabolic enzymes in P. vannamei juveniles reared in ISW of 10 ppt salinity.

A 60-day experiment was conducted to evaluate the individual and combinatorial effects of L-carnitine, taurine and quercetin on the growth and metabolism of P. vannamei juveniles. The shrimps were fed with eight experimental diets, viz. Control, TC, TT, TQ, TC+Q, TC+T, TT+Q and TC+T+Q to evaluate their effect.

All the nutraceutical-fed groups exhibited significantly higher growth, feed utilization, AST and ALT activities than the control group. Among the nutraceutical fed groups, TC+T and TC+T+Q treatment groups exhibited higher growth, AST, ALT and lower LDH and MDH activities than other treatment groups.
