An experiment was conducted through kharif(Kh), rabi(R) and summer(S) seasons of 1990–91 and 1991–92 to evaluate and identify the most suitable and remunerative cropping sequence(s) under rainfed condition. Study revealed that though summer rice equivalent yield was highest in rice(S) -rice(Kh) -potato(R) (58.32 q ha−1) and Jute(S) -rice(Kh) -potato(R) (50.60 q ha−1) sequences, the gross and net returns per rupee Invested was higher in rice(Kh) -buckwheat(R) -cawn(R) (Rs.3.21, Rs.2.21) and rice(Kh) -niger(R) -cawn(R) (Rs.3.16. Rs.2.16) sequences. Net return per day was highest with greengram(S) -rice(Kh) -rapeseed(R) sequence (Rs.33.67). Partial budgeting revealed that maximum positive gain was with greengram(S) -rice(Kh) -rapeseed(R) sequence (Rs.2116.00 ha−1).
