Abstract

A field experiment conducted for assesssing the moisture use and productivity rating index (PRI) of various rainfed crops on a Vertic Ustochrept indicated that the moisture use vs. per cent growing season of crop fitted well in a linear regression equation of the form Y = mx + C for different rainfed crops. Highest moisture use by crops (110.87 mm to 302.99 mm) was found during 35 to 75% growing season as against lowest (44.20 mm to 158.25 mm) during 0 to 35% growing season of crop. Cotton, groundnut and sunflower were found more suitable compared to other crops on the basis of productivity rating index and cost benefit ratios, which were observed to be 2.51, 1.87 and 1.78 in respect of groundnut, cotton AHH-468 and sunflower respectively.
