Abstract

A study involving three genetic male sterile lines and eight testers of pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millspaugh) indicated the predominant role of additive gene effects for send yield per plant and almost all yield attributes except plant height. AKms 21 a male sterile line was the best general combiner for number of clusters per plant, protein content, 100 seed weight and number of seeds per pod. Among the testers AKT 9221 and C 11 were found to be the good general combiners for seed yield per plant, number of pods per plant, number of clusters per plant and days to 50 per cent flowering. The cross AKms 11xAKT 9221 was the best combination for seed yield per plant and number of pods per plant followed by AKms 11 x C 11 and AKms 21 x C 11.
