An experiment was conducted for two consecutive years during 1992–1994 to study the effect and uptake of graded levels of nitrogen (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg N ha−1). In wheat cultivated in sequence with seven different Kharif crops viz. rice, maize, sesamum, groundnut, sorghum (fodder), dhaincha (GM), blackgram including fallow (control). Wheat after dhaincha and groundnut recorded higher N-concentration and uptake closely followed by fallow (control) and groundnut. Wheat followed by cereals (rice, maize and sorghum) and 0il seed (sesamum) exhibited lower values of these traits. Increase in N-Ievels upto 120 kg N ha−1) also depicted gradual increase both in N-concentration and N-uptake. The highest wheat yield of 47.07 and 46.06q ha−1 were realised in dhaincha (G.M.) wheat sequence at 80 kg N ha−1.
