Hybrid Ganga-S was grown during monsoon (Jun.-Sept.) and winter (Nov.-Apr.) for four years in a factorial RBD with three replications. Plants were treated with either urea or DAP or ammonium nitrate at 80, 120 and 160 kg N/ha, besides, a control (0 kg N/ha) was also maintained. The RGR of different plant parts, NAR and CGR were significantly/higher during monsoon while LAI and LAD were higher during winter. Values of all these parameters increased with increase in nitrogen application. In general, plants treated with ammonium nitrate had more LAI and LAD followed by urea and DAP treated ones. However, the type of nitrogen source did not influence RGR, NAR and CGR. The temperature regimes and nitrogen application influenced the growth rates of maize. Faster growth rates adversely affected the dry matter accumulation and grain yield. LAI and LAD seem to be important components for determining the dry matter accumulation and grain yield in maize.
