Genetic divergence in barley (Hordeum vulgare L)
Abstract
Genetic divergence of 52 Hnes of barley(Honieum vulgare L.) was assessed using Mahalanobis's D2 statistics. These lines could be grouped in eleven clusters. Grouping of lines in different clusters was not related to their geographic origin. Ears per plot, grain yield per ear, plant height, 100 grain weight and number of grains per ear contributed maximum towards total genetic divergence. Based on genetic divergence and clustering pattern, hybridization involving parents viz., BL-2, R5–6, 8-13-183, 8-18-182, 8-19-12, RD-57, RD-1827, RD-1797, Karan-280, 812-93,8-13-52, RD-1740 and C8–39 were identified as they are expected to produce reasonably good heterotic effect.
