Abstract

An experiment was conducted to prepare nutritionally enriched phosphocompost and to evaluate its effect on crop yields and soil microbial activity in an alluvial soil. It was ascertained that the cowdung slurry enriched phosphocompost was more successful in acceleration the decomposition process as compared to multiple microbial inoculants along with rockphosphate for compost, in turn, caused lowering the C: N ratio 12.2: 1. Water soluble P and citrate soluble P increased significantly (p = < 0.5) by the application of rockphosphate at the rate of 1.25% P2O5 and further, increased by 2.5% P2O5. Application of enriched compost at the rate of 10/t ha significantly increased the grain yield of rice and black gram. The activity of soil microbial biomass carbon was 1.7 fold higher under cowdung enriched phosphocompost compared to inorganic fertilizer application in alluvial soil.
