Abstract

Genotypes SI 861, IS 207, BS 6-1-1 and Gene 9101 performed as good combiners for seed yield/plant with average seed yield/plant. The crosses S 0573 x SVPR 1, IS 200 x CO 1 and Gene 9101 x CO 1 recorded high per se performance and significant sca effect for seed yield/plant. The parents S 0573, IS 200 and Gene 9101 are good or moderate general combiner for seed yield and its components. The hybrids Si 861 x SVPR 1, Si 861 x CO 1, IS 207 x SVPR 1, IS 207 x CO 1 and BS 6-1-1 x CO 1 recorded high per se performance and non significant sca effect for seed yield/plant and number of capsules/plant. The parents involved in these crosses namely SI 861, IS 207 and BS 6-1-1 are good general combiner for seed yield/plant and the gene action involved may be of additive type. These crosses could be used for further selection through pedigree breeding to obtain high yielding segregants.
