Seed treatment exploits the seed as the delivery system or deployment agent for variops meterials. Resident bioconftol isolates of Trichoderma viride (TV1, TV2, TV3) obtained from the rhizosphere regions of ricefallow blackgram {Vigna mungo (L) Hepper} of Karaikal District, Union territory of Pondicherry, alongwith T. viride (Coimbatore isolate-TVC) and T. harzianum (TH) tested for its efficacy as seed treatment against Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi.) Goid, the incitant of toot rot of blackgram (both in pots and field). Among the various isolates tested, seed treatment with lV3 recorded increased rhizosphere population of T. viride with reduced pathogenic population of M. phaseolina leading to reduction in per cent disease incidence throughout the crop growth under pot and field conditions.
