Abstract

A 2 year field experiment was conducted during winter seasons of 1987 and 1988 to study the influence of N and Zn on growth and yield of wheat varieties. It was observed that among the varieties (HD 4502, HD 2189 and HD 2280), HD 2189 variety recorded the highest yield of 34.68 and 30.52 q/ha during first and second year, respectively. Nitrogen application increased the grain yield with successive increase in its level (80, 120 160 kg/ha). Among the methods of zinc application (full soil, 3/4 th soil + 1/4 th foliar and 1/2 soil + 1/2 foliar), soil application of full amount of zinc recorded the highest grain yield of 33.8 and 20.48 q/ha during first and second year, respectively. Higher values of growth attributes (leaf area index, leaf area duration and leaf area ratio) were observed in the variety HD 4502 during both the years.
