Abstract

Twelve varieties of onion were evaluated during kharif season over five years. The pooled analysis revealed that Pusa Madhavi, Arka Niketan, Punjab Red Round, Agrifound Light Red and Arka Pitamber produced small to medium sized bulb with thinner neck, thereby confirming their better storage quality. the varieties N 53, Arka Kalyan, Agrifound Dark Red and Arka Niketan recorded significantly higher bolb yield (239.33, 238.20, 234.00 and 214.37 q/ha respectively) than other varieties tested. It was observed that rabi varieties if grown in kharif season could also confer equally good bulb yield as that of kharif varieties. Arka Niketan showing better keeping quality, medium bulb and higher yield was advocated for commercial cultivation in rainy season.
