In vitro shoot proliferation of ‘Cashew’ (Anacardium occidentale L.) was investigated using excised vegetative bud as explant on MS medium containing BA at 0, 2.5, 5.0, 10 and 20μM. Coconut water 15% (v/v) was included in all the treatments. Shoot proliteration increased as BA level increased, but the magnitude was reduced as IBA level increased. Greatest shoot proliferation was on MS medium with 10μM BA and 1.0 μM IBA. Shoot fasciation increased as BA level increased, but IBA at all concentrations negatively interacted with BA and reduced fasciation. Microcuttings of 15 mm long derived from proliferated shoot were rooted in sterilized fine grade vermiculite with different concentrations of IBA at 0, 5, 10 and 15μM. Visible root development was observed after five weeks in cuttings treated with IBA 5 μM and 10 μM.
