Abstract

In the present study diallel analysis was adopted and nine parents were crossed in all possible ways. In Hayman's graphical approach and Griffing's numerical approach, additive as well as nonadditive genetic variances were significant. However, additive genetic variance was predominant. From the diallel analysis of maize resistant to sorghum downy mildew including reciprocals it is concluded that crosses between resistant lines and the susceptible lines showed intermediate disease reaction suggesting polygenic system for resistance to sorghum downy mildew in maize.
