Evaluation of 15 genotypes of brinjal for 6 quantitative characters revealed that PCV was greater than corresponding GCV for all the traits. High heritability accompanied by moderate to high genetic gain and GCV were observed for average fruit weight, number of fruiti and branches/plant which could be improved by selection in early generations. Plant height, days to first harvest and yield exhibited high heritability coupled with low GCV and genetic gain which needs selection over several successive generations following hybridization for their edification. Pusa Purple Round, Black Beauty, BB 26, BB 11, BB 7, BB 6–1 and BB 1 were found potential for exploitation.
