The evaluation studies on no-tillage and conventional tillage system were conducted during rabi 1998 at CCSHAU, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kaithal (Haryana). The results indicated that the wheat sown by no-till seed fertilizer drill gave 17.09% higher yield as compared to conventional method of sowing. No-tillage system required least energy and cost of production, while these requirements were about 5.5 times more in the conventional system. There was also no appreciable effect of no-tillage system on bulk density and shear strength of the soil below ploughing depth (25–30 cm). Moisture retention and moisture depletion were marginally high in no-tillage system during stress periods. A net saving of Rs. 2140 per hectare was observed with the adoption of no-till sowing of wheat crop over conventional method of sowing.
