Abstract

Field studies were conducted during winter season of 1997 and 1998 to evaluate the growth performance of two cotton hybrids (Surya and TCHB-213) under three N levels (90,120 and 150 kg/hal and four weed control methods viz., pre emergence Pendimethalin, post emergence directed spray of glyphosate, hand weeding twice and unweeded control. The study revealed that the intra-hirsutum Surya recorded higher LAI, CGR and NAR and all these growth attributes were higher at higher level of applied N (150 kg/hal and under hand weeding twice irrespective of the hybrids studied. The unweeded check plots registered the lowest LAI, CGR and NAR. The peak CGR was achieved between 60–90 DAS for both the hybrids.
