The altitude affects the runner plant production and quauty in strawberry cultivars

Abstract

This study was conducted at the elevations of 1200 and 1850 m on the strawberry cultlvars Pajaro, Douglas and Doritt (216), to determine the effect of elevation on runner plant production and quality. 1be production of runner plants at different elevations were similar. There was an important difference between the two elevations with respect tei rooted runner plant numbers. The runner plants from the lower elevation was better than those from higher. At the lower elevation, the runner plants had much more leaves and primary adventive roots and longer roots. There was no difference in the crown dlameter of runner plants. Elevation also affected the quality of runner plants. The percentage of No.1 runner plants produced at 1200 m was greater than that of plants produced at 1850 m. In conclusion, production of runner plant at 1200 m e1evation appears better than at 1850 m.
