Combining ability studies for fourteen characters were studied through line x tester analysis involving five Sorghum bicolor male sterile lines (lines) and seven pollinators (testers). Variances due to lines, testers and their interaction were highly significant for grain yield, straw yield, ear head weight, number of secondary branches, number of primary branches, number of whorls, panicle length and duration. Non-additive gene action played a major role in controlling all the characters studied. ICSB 73 was found to be the best general combiner for grain yield followed by CO 4, IS 192-14-1 and ICSB 70. For straw yield Paiyur 2, ICSB 70, AKMS 14 B and IS 2026-1-1-1 were found to be the best combiners. ICSB 70 was best for both grain yield and straw yield. Among the hybrids, ICSA 70/Paiyur 2, AKMS 14 A/Paiyur 2, ICSA 73/IS 19111-3, ICSA 111 CO 4, ICSA 111 IS 2026-1-1-1 and DMS 1 A 1 IS 19111-3 were found to be good specific combiners for both grain and straw yield. Overall performance was found to be best for ICSA 70/Paiyur 2 cross combination.
