The efficiency of various intra-population selection procedures were compared for grain yield and its contributing panicle traits in pearl millet. Three progeny selection procedures i.e. half-sib (HS), full-sib (FS) and S1 were studied. Mean, genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV), phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV), heritability and expected genetic advance were worked out. The highest mean, genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV), phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) were observed in S1 progeny selection followed by FS and HS. Estimates of heritability and expected genetic advance for grain yield and most of its contributing traits were also higher in S1 progeny selection. Thus, among these three intra-population improvement selection procedure, S1 selection procedure appear to be superior as compared to FS and HS progeny selection procedures.
