Field experiments were conducted during 1997–98 and 1998–99 to evaluate the calcium Nitrate as a nitrogen source for FCV tobacco in Northern Light Soils(NLS) of Andhra Pradesh. Pooled analysis of two years data (Replicated as well as bulk trials) revealed that application of calcium nitrate has shown improvement of cured leaf yield, grade index and the chemical quality parameters (nicotine and reducing sugars) were at par with other basal and top dressers. Application of calcium nitrate increased the calcium concentration in leaf. Hence calcium nitrate can be used as a nitrogen source to FCV tobacco in NLS. It can be used either as basal dresser or top dresser or the entire N requirement can be given through calcium nitrate.
