The present study was carried out with a view to have a suitable mulberry variety and a cost effective NPK dose for rain fed areas, for enhancing the per unit production of mulberry leaves to make mulberry sericulture more profitable and lucrative. Five fertilizer levels using four mulberry varieties were evaluated on the basis of various growth parameters like extension growth, branching, number of leaves, leaf area, hundred leaf weight, weight of 100 sq cm laminar area, fresh leaf yield and moisture content of leaf. S1 variety was found to be best mulberry variety and NPK @ 120:40:40 Kg, in combination with FYM @ 10 MT per hectare per year was found to be most cost effective fertilizer level under rain fed conditions.
