Abstract

Field experiments were conducted during the summer and kharif seasons of 2000–2002 to study the effect of preceding leguminous crops along with inorganic N on yield of succeeding rice crop and its effect on soil fertility. Rice yield obtained with incorporation of S. aculeata with 50% RDN was higher than that obtained with 100% RDN alone thus resulting in a saving of 60 kg of fertilizer N ha−1. The soil fertility status increased significantly with the application of green manure S. aculeatafollowed by the combination of green manure and grain legumes along with recommended NPK. Maximum reduction in soil fertility was observed in control treatment.
